New workshop announcement ...

Very exciting news indeed is that a new workshop is to be added to our existing portfolio later this year.  As a PFUK beneficiary you will be able to attend our 'shoot and develop' workshop where you will use a tradition roll film camera for your shoot in the morning and then after lunch go into the darkroom to develop your film and print your shots yourself!

This will be as part of the series of workshops and it can also be a stand alone day too.  You will have have to attended the mandatory three initial workshops before booking a place and the best of all is that it will not cost you a penny!  All costs are covered including use of camera equipment and darkroom costs and you can take your prints away with you at the end of the day.

Dates of the initial workshops can be found by clicking here.  Don't delay, book your place right now to avoid disappointment!

In business? Read this ...

If you’re in business and are serious about building a professional social media presence then you really do need to read this.

What is the first thing that prospective clients and customers will see when they come across your profile on your own website, Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter etc?  It’s you of course and you need to make the best first impression and I can help you achieve that.

Your profile picture needs to be just right, anything less may do you a disservice and could have a negative impact on how you and your business is viewed.  Get it right first time, present a professional image of yourself and your business and you will get a head of your competition.

So, just how can I help?  Well I’m a photographer.  I’m experienced in shooting professional head shots for actors, performers and business people just like you. Have a look at the examples attached to see some of my work.  You can have a professional, top quality image to help you promote yourself just like these.

I can already hear the “Oh, how much is this going to cost me?” and “I cant afford a professional photographer” objections but forget that, this will not cost you one single penny!  But there is a catch to it.

Have a look at my community group Positive Focus UK.  (www.positivefocus.org.uk) It’s a ‘not-for-profit’ group that provides FREE photography workshops for emergency service and military personnel and their immediate families who are living with mental health issues as a result of their operational experiences.

This type of ‘social prescriptive’ endeavour really does need widespread support and that’s where you will find the catch.

I will provide you with the following:

  1. A free headshot session at my studio
  2. One image suitable for printing and one suitable for web
  3. Royalty free and for you to use as you see fit, except for profit

In return, all I ask you to do is this:

  1. Wherever you use the image you credit me as the photographer
  2. You link, like, follow and share my social media presence for Positive Focus UK
  3. You commit to supporting my ‘easyfundraising’ initiative (that doesn’t cost you anything either!)

Sound good to you?  You get a free headshot to help promote yourself and I get increased awareness of my community group Positive Focus UK.

It really doesn’t cost you anything and we both benefit from mutual support, your success is my success!

This offer is exclusively open to all of my social media links and is bound to attract plenty of attention so get in touch with me right away to book a headshot session.

You can get in touch with me via email: info@positivefocus.org.uk or via my website; www.positivefocus.org.uk or any of my Positive Focus UK social media portals; Linkedin, Facebook or Instagram.

Let’s work together to make a difference!

More can benefit ...

After careful consideration of what I'm aiming to provide here at PFUK  I've made a slight alteration to the criteria of people that I'm trying to support.

Often it's the case that an individual can be affected by their operational service but more often than not their spouses/partners are hugely affected too.

So, I'm opening all workshops up to the husbands/wives/partners/children of those who are living with mental health issues because you are living with it too!

I'm DBS checked so I can offer places to under 18s (subject to certain conditions) so please do get in touch if you want to know more.

More items have been added this morning to the Martyn Morgan Memorial Museum and now you can see some classic cameras from as early as 1920.

The inventory will be added to regularly so make sure that you keep coming back to see what's new.

If you have any vintage photographic items hidden away collecting dust and you would like to either donate or long term loan them to our museum we would be very grateful.

Come and have a look at some classic cameras like this Ensign 'All Distance' pocket camera.

Museum soon to open ...

Well, what a busy month I've had!  Not even time to update our blog until today (after the England rugby match of course!).  So, what's been happening?

There are couple of things in the pipeline at the moment and as soon as I have fuller details you will all be the first to know but in the meantime I've had more very generous donations made; a 1950s Leica camera, a clockwork self timer device, a rangefinder and a brass film case.  These are all items that would have been used years ago and probably not seen very much nowadays.

So, that has got me thinking, these (and many other photographic items that I have) won't necessarily be physically used on the workshops but they are fantastic talking pieces and to know where you're going you need to know where you've been in the first place.

What I am going to do is set up a photographic museum that will be accessible exclusively by workshop beneficiaries only.  But so no-one misses out altogether, I will be adding a museum page to the website to display and explain all of the traditional pieces that I collect.

The equipment shown in the picture below was donated by Kevyn Barratt, who lives in Bridport, Devon.  These belonged to his brother Martyn, who sadly died twenty years ago.  Kevyn wanted them to be seen and appreciated rather than sitting in a drawer for years to come.

Martyn is a much missed family member and to help keep his memory alive for years to come I have decided to call the museum the 'Martyn Morgan Memorial Photographic Museum'.

Keep an eye on future blogs and updates to our museum page to see how the collection grows and how photography used to be!

Supporting Veterans Together ...

Yesterday I was very privileged to share a room full of people who are supporting our emergency service and military veterans with all sorts of situations.  I truly didn't know that there was such a variety of organisations ready to help in so many different ways from impartial legal advice to dry stone walling courses!

The event was the launch of the seAp Advocacy and to sign their Covenant.  SeAp provide independent advocacy services to help resolve any issues or concerns over health and social care services.  You can see more of what they do on their website www.sap.org.uk

Here are a few photos of the day, the eagle eyed amongst you will spot the Lord Mayor of Plymouth and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall.

What a fantastic day to share and collaborate with other like minded people.

Humbled by people's generosity ...

Today we have been very humbled by a local man's selfless generosity in his donation of not one, but two traditional film Canon SLRs AND a variety of top quality lenses and a camera bag.

Wanting to remain anonymous, the local man said "You're providing a fantastic support for service personnel and I want to contribute to that..."

These two cameras will come in very useful on our retro film workshop, where beneficiaries will be able to shoot with traditional camera equipment and see the direct results printed from negatives....ah, the good old days!

We are forever grateful to our donator, he really will help us to make a difference.
